Frequently Asked Questions

Here are straight answers about how the calculators work, how accurate the results are, what happens to the numbers you enter, and how a free site with no accounts pays its bills. You will also find details on display settings, embedding the tools on a business website and how to reach support.

01

Using the calculators

How to get answers from the tools, what they cost, and what to do with the results.

Are the calculators really free?

Yes. Every calculator on the site is free to use, with no account, sign-up or trial period. You can run as many scenarios as you like. The site is supported by advertising, which stays off unless you agree to it, and by clearly labeled partner links that you are never required to click. Neither one changes how a calculator works or the results it shows you.

Do I need to create an account?

No. There is no account to create and nothing to log in to. You open a calculator, enter your numbers and see the results right away. Because there are no accounts, we do not keep a history of your calculations on our servers. If you want a record, you can print the page or write down the figures before you leave.

How do I choose the right calculator?

Start with the question you want answered. If you are weighing a new loan, the loan, car loan or loan comparison tools fit. For card debt, try the credit card payoff or debt snowball calculators. For savings, CDs and growth, look in the savings section. Each topic page groups related calculators and explains what each one is best for.

Can I compare two scenarios side by side?

Several calculators are built for comparison, such as the loan comparison, balance transfer comparison and car buy vs. lease tools. On any other calculator, you can change one input at a time, such as the term or rate, and note how the payment and total interest move. Changing a single input per run makes the trade-off easiest to see.

What do the glossary links on each page do?

They open short, plain-English explanations of financial terms used in the calculator, such as APR, APY or amortization. Each glossary entry includes a small worked example and links to related terms and calculators. If a result uses a word you are unsure about, the glossary is the fastest way to understand what that number means before you act on it.

Can I print or share my results?

You can print a calculator page from your browser to keep a copy of the inputs and results. Because nothing is saved to an account, the printout or your own notes are the way to keep a record. To share, send the calculator's address; the other person will enter their own numbers, since your inputs are not stored on our servers.

02

Accuracy & methodology

What the numbers represent, the assumptions behind them, and why a lender's figures may differ.

Are the results exact?

No. Results are estimates based on the numbers you enter and standard formulas. They are designed to be accurate for planning and comparison, but they are not a loan offer, a quote or a statement from any lender or bank. Your actual payment, interest or earnings depend on the final terms in your contract or account disclosures.

Why does my lender's payment differ from the calculator?

Small differences are normal. Lenders may charge interest daily rather than monthly, use a 365/360 day count, include fees or add-ons in the amount financed, or set a first payment date that adds extra days of interest. Rounding also varies. If the gap is large, check that the loan amount, APR and term you entered match your loan documents exactly.

How do the calculators round numbers?

Money is shown to the cent, and rates are shown to two or three decimal places. Internally, calculations carry more precision and round at the display step, so a total built from rounded monthly figures can differ from the displayed total by a few cents. Lenders often absorb that rounding in the final payment, which is why a last payment is sometimes slightly different.

What compounding do the calculators assume?

Most loan calculators assume monthly payments made at the end of each period, with interest charged on the remaining balance each month. Savings calculators state their compounding schedule, and some let you choose yearly, monthly or daily compounding. Where a tool uses a specific convention, such as a 365/360 day count, its page explains the assumption so you can match it to your own account.

Do the calculators use today's interest rates?

No. The calculators do not pull live market rates. You enter the rate you have been offered or want to test, and any default values are illustrative starting points only. To see the effect of a better or worse rate, change that one input and compare the payment and total interest. Your offer depends on your credit, the term and the lender.

Do the results include taxes, insurance or fees?

Only when a calculator has a field for them. Some auto calculators let you enter sales tax or fees, and some savings tools account for taxes and inflation. Otherwise, assume the result covers principal and interest only. Fees rolled into a loan raise the amount financed, so add them to the loan amount if you want the payment to reflect them.

Is the information on this site financial advice?

No. The calculators and articles are educational tools that show how the math works and how choices compare. They do not know your full situation and cannot tell you which product to choose. For decisions with large consequences, review the official disclosures for any product and consider talking with a qualified professional before you commit.

03

Privacy & your data

What happens to the numbers you enter, what stays in your browser, and how cookies and the contact form work.

Do you store the numbers I enter?

No account is involved and we do not save your calculation history on our servers. The calculators run in your browser, and the figures you type are used to produce the results on your screen. When you close or leave the page, those inputs are not kept in any account, because there is no account to keep them in.

What does the site remember about me?

Only your display preferences, such as theme, text size, contrast and motion settings, and these are stored in your own browser, not on our servers. They let the site look the way you chose on your next visit. Clearing your browser's site data resets them. Using a different browser or device starts you with the default settings again.

Does the site use cookies?

Essential site functions work without advertising cookies. Any cookies or similar technologies used for advertising are off by default and only load if you give consent through the consent prompt. You can decline and still use every calculator with the same results. You can also clear cookies and site data through your browser settings at any time.

How do I change my cookie or consent choice?

You can change your mind at any time. Clearing this site's cookies and site data in your browser resets your choice, so the consent prompt can ask you again. Declining or withdrawing consent keeps advertising off. It does not limit which calculators you can use or change the results they produce, because the math never depends on your consent choice.

What happens to information I send through the contact form?

Information you submit through the contact form, such as your name, email address and message, is used to read and respond to your question. It is not needed to use the calculators. Please do not include sensitive details such as account numbers, card numbers or Social Security numbers in your message, since we never need them to answer a question.

Do you sell my calculator inputs?

No. Because there are no accounts and your calculator inputs are not saved on our servers, there is no stored history of your numbers to sell or share. Display preferences stay in your browser. If you choose to click a partner link, you leave our calculator and the partner's own privacy terms apply to anything you give them.

04

Ads, partners & how the site is funded

How a free site pays for itself, and why that never touches the math.

How is the site funded?

The site is funded in two ways: advertising, which stays off unless you consent, and optional partner links labeled as such, such as offers to compare rates or talk with a professional. Businesses can also embed the calculators on their own websites through a separate business account. None of these arrangements changes the formulas, inputs or results of any calculator on this site.

Will I see ads on the site?

Ads are off by default. Advertising only appears if you agree to it through the consent prompt, and you can use every calculator in full whether you agree or not. Declining ads does not lock any feature, reduce accuracy or change your results. The site is designed so that ads, when shown, stay separate from calculator inputs and results.

What are partner links?

Partner links are optional buttons or links, such as a prompt to compare offers or talk with a professional, that may earn the site a fee if you use them. They are always disclosed as partner links. Clicking one first takes you to a page on our site under a "/go/" address, which tells you that you are leaving for a partner, before you continue.

Do partners affect the calculator results?

No. Partners never influence the formulas, default values or results of any calculator. The math is the same whether or not a partner link appears on the page, and whether or not you click one. A partner offer is a separate, optional next step; it is not a recommendation and not part of the calculation you just ran.

Why do partner links go through a /go/ page?

Routing partner links through a "/go/" page on our site makes it clear that you are leaving for a third party and that the link is a disclosed partner link. It gives you a moment to decide before you continue. Once you reach the partner's site, its own terms, rates and privacy policy apply, not ours.

Are partner offers recommendations?

No. A partner link is an option you can explore, not advice that it is the right product for you. Rates and terms you see from a partner depend on your own application. Before acting, compare any offer with others, read its official disclosures, and run the numbers through the calculator yourself to see the total cost.

Embedding the calculators on a business website

For lenders, credit unions, dealers, advisers and other businesses that want these tools on their own site.

Can my business put these calculators on our website?

Yes. Businesses can embed the calculators on their own websites through a free business account. Visitors use the calculator on your pages, and the experience is styled to fit your site. Details on how embedding works and how to get started are on our For businesses page.

Who receives the leads from an embedded calculator?

The business does. When a visitor on your website uses an embedded calculator and chooses to send their details through it, those leads go to your business, not to us or to any other company. Embedding is meant to help your own visitors run the numbers and reach you directly when they are ready to talk.

Will an embedded calculator match our website's look?

Yes. Embedded calculators use themes that match your site, so colors and styling fit your brand instead of looking like another company's tool. The calculations stay the same as on our site, so your visitors get the same consistent math. Our For businesses page explains the available options for appearance and setup.

Is embedding available for free?

Yes. Embedding calculators on a business website uses a free business account, separate from the consumer site, with set limits on how many calculators, views and lead contacts it covers. The calculators on this site remain free for individual consumers, with no account needed. Our For businesses page shows what the business account includes and how to sign up.

Do embedded calculators use the same math as this site?

Yes. An embedded calculator runs the same formulas and assumptions as the version on this site, so results are consistent wherever a visitor uses it. Only the appearance changes to match your website. As with our own pages, results are estimates for planning and do not replace the official terms and disclosures your business provides.

06

Accessibility & support

Display settings that make the site easier to use, and how to reach us.

How do I change the theme, text size or contrast?

Open the display panel to adjust the look of every page. You can switch between light and dark themes, make text larger, turn on higher contrast and reduce motion. Your choices are saved in your own browser, so the site remembers them on that device without an account.

Can I turn off animations?

Yes. The display panel includes a reduced-motion setting that minimizes animations and transitions across the site. Calculator results and charts still work the same way with motion reduced; only the movement is turned down. The setting is saved in your browser, so it stays on for your next visit on that device, with no account needed.

Is the site accessible with a keyboard or screen reader?

We aim for the site to work with a keyboard and with screen readers, and we design with recognized web accessibility guidelines in mind. The display panel also lets you enlarge text, raise contrast and reduce motion. If you run into any barrier, such as a field you cannot reach or a result that is not announced, please email support so we can look into it.

How do I contact support?

Email support or use the contact form on the site. Describe the calculator you were using, what you entered and what you expected to see, which helps us respond quickly. We typically reply within two business days. Please leave out sensitive details such as account or card numbers, because we never need them to help.

How quickly will I get a reply?

We typically reply within two business days of receiving your message. Messages sent over a weekend or holiday are handled on the next business days. If your question is about a specific result, include the calculator name and the numbers you entered so we can reproduce it without extra back-and-forth.

Can I report a calculation I think is wrong?

Yes, and we appreciate it. Email support or use the contact form with the calculator name, the inputs you used, the result you saw and the figure you expected, such as one from your loan documents. We will check the math and the assumptions. Often the difference comes from fees, day-count rules or payment timing, which we can explain.

Is there a mobile app?

No. There is no separate app to download. The site works in the web browser on phones, tablets and computers, and the layout adjusts to your screen size. Your display preferences are saved in each browser you use, so you can set them once on your phone and once on your computer.
