How do you find the right calculator fast?

Scan the A–Z list below, filter by topic, or press Ctrl+K, ⌘K or the / key to search by what you want to work out. Search understands everyday phrases such as "car payment," "pay off credit card" or "CD interest."

If you would rather follow a path, our collections put calculators in a recommended order for common situations such as paying off debt or buying a car.

What do the five topics cover?

  • Loans & Amortization. Payments, total cost, payment breakdowns, day-count methods, student loans and the interest deduction.
  • Credit & Debt. Credit card payoff, minimum payments, avalanche and snowball plans, balance transfers and consolidation.
  • Savings & CDs. Compound growth, savings goals, emergency funds, CDs, CD ladders and withdrawals.
  • Auto & Vehicle. Car, truck, motorcycle, RV and boat loans, leasing, refinancing and early payoff.
  • Personal Finance. Net worth, budgeting, savings rate, inflation, the Rule of 72 and financial independence.

Frequently asked questions

How many calculators are on CalculateInterestPay?

There are 65 free calculators: 13 for loans and amortization, 13 for credit and debt, 15 for savings and CDs, 13 for auto and vehicle financing, and 11 for personal finance. All of them are listed on this page from A to Z.

Do I have to pay for any of the calculators?

No. Every calculator on the consumer site is free, with no account and no limit on how often you use it. A separate business account exists only for businesses that want to put the calculators on their own websites. It never limits or changes the free consumer calculators.

What is the difference between the loan calculator and the total cost of loan calculator?

The loan calculator focuses on the payment for a given amount, rate and term. The total cost of loan calculator focuses on everything you pay over the life of the loan, including interest. Use the first to check affordability and the second to compare offers.

Which calculator shows how long it takes to pay off a credit card?

The credit card payoff calculator shows how long a balance takes to clear at a fixed payment and how much interest you pay. To see what paying only the minimum does, use the minimum payment calculator instead. Comparing the two shows how much a fixed payment saves.

Is there a calculator for comparing two loans?

Yes. The loan comparison calculator places two loan offers side by side so you can compare payment, total interest and total cost. For cars specifically, the rebate vs. low APR calculator compares a cash rebate with promotional financing. Comparing total cost, not only the payment, is the clearest way to see which offer is cheaper.

Can I suggest a calculator that is not on the list?

Yes. Email the general address on our contact page and describe the question you were trying to answer. Reader suggestions help us decide what to build next, and new calculators are announced in the changelog. Telling us the decision you were facing helps more than naming a formula.

Do the calculators handle business or mortgage loans?

The consumer site focuses on personal loans, auto loans, student loans, credit cards, savings and everyday personal finance. The general loan calculator handles any fixed-rate amortizing loan, but it does not include mortgage-specific costs such as property taxes, homeowners insurance or mortgage insurance.

Why are some calculators listed under more than one collection?

Collections are built around life situations, and some calculators help in more than one. The budget planner, for example, is useful both when paying off debt and when getting finances in order. Each calculator still has one home topic in the A–Z list.
